Valley Community Foundation Receives $1.4 Million Bequest

Valley Community Foundation in Derby, Connecticut, has announced a gift from the estate of Raymond P. Mackowski totaling more than $1.4 million to address changing needs and opportunities in the region.

Mackowski, who died in March 2016, was a longtime volunteer at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a member of the local American Legion and Knights of Columbus. The bequest will be treated as an endowment fund at the foundation.

"We are honored and sincerely grateful to receive such a substantial bequest from Mr. Mackowski," said VCF president and CEO Sharon Closius. "Something powerful happens when you name a charity in your estate plan. You create a legacy that tells future generations what causes mattered to you, which will inspire future generations to make a difference in their own way. As stewards for the valley’s philanthropic endowments, we look forward to honoring Mr. Mackowski’s intent throughout our community for many years to come."
