People in the News (9/10/17): Appointments, Promotions, Obituaries

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C., has announced JENNIFER R. PSAKI as its new vice president for communications and strategy. Over the course of fifteen years in public service, Psaki has held a number of senior communications leadership positions, including most recently as President Barack Obama’s White House communications director and as U.S. State Department spokesperson under Secretary of State John F. Kerry. She is also a veteran of successful campaigns at the state and federal levels, a former senior aide in Congress, and a fellow at Georgetown University’s Institute of Politics and Public Service. 

The New York Foundling, one of the oldest and largest child and family service organizations in New York City, has named VALERIE RUSSO as its chief operating officer. Russo, who comes to the organization from the Children's Aid Society, where she served as vice president for strategy and excellence, has spent much of her career at New York City's Administration for Children's Services, where she served as chief of staff to the commissioner (1996-2001), associate commissioner (2201-02), and deputy commissioner (2005–11). In 2004, she also worked for The New York Foundling as director of planning. 

The Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts, has announced the appointment of LISA SALTZMAN as the Starr Director of its Research and Academic Program (RAP). In that role, Saltzman, chair of the Department of the History of Art at Bryn Mawr College and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Chair in the Humanities there, will lead the program’s international agenda of intellectual events and collaborations and oversee the Clark's residential fellows program.

United Way of Miami-Dade has announced the appointment of MELISSA GRACEY as chair and CATHY ALEXANDER as vice chair of Women United (formerly Women's Leadership), a group of prominent women leaders dedicated to building a stronger Miami through philanthropy and community service. Gracey, the director of marketing at Berkowitz Pollack Brant Advisors and Accountants and a longtime United Way volunteer, currently serves on the board of Neighbors 4 Neighbors and is an active member of the Orange Bowl Committee and Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Sports Council. Alexander, a vice president at TD Wealth, serves on the executive board of Leadership Miami for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. 

The Packard Foundation Fund for Pueblo (CO), a donor-advised fund affiliated with the Caring for Colorado Foundation, has announced that Senior Program Officer RANDY EVETTS will be leaving his position on September 30. During his three years with the fund, Evetts has worked to bring community stakeholders and partners together, strengthen the leadership capacity of nonprofits through the Leadership Forum, reshape the Pueblo Advisory Committee, and execute the fund's grantmaking with the same values and appreciation for his community Pueblo native David Packard, the late founder of the Packard Foundation. Caring for Colorado has announced a search for Evetts' replacement.

In other news, Troy (MI)-based Flagstar Bancorp has announced the launch of a new corporate entity, the Flagstar Foundation, to formalize its giving in Southeast Michigan and other parts of the country where it operates and has named BETH CORREA, senior vice president, community affairs and quality, as president. The bank plans to contribute an initial $1 million for 2018 to the foundation, which was founded as an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit, and to make annual contributions based on profitability after that.
