The Iowa West Foundation in Council Bluffs, Iowa, has announced second-quarter grants totaling nearly $3.1 million.
The grants include an award of $1.1 million to the Pottawattamie County Conservation Board in support of a foundation-led initiative to design and build a recreational trail system in the county. The first phase of the initiative will involve construction of a paved ten-foot-wide sixteen-mile-long route along Railroad Highway (County Road G8L) between the eastern edge of Council Bluffs and Neola.
"Historically the Iowa West Foundation has supported the development of trails in our region; our board has decided to take its support to the next level," said Iowa West President and CEO Pete Tulipana. "In the foundation's strategic plan, place-making is a key strategy, and trails are a major part of this focus area."
